Make Your Own Rum in Amsterdam Now
Ladies and gentlemen, we have news! Spirited Union Distillery has been based near our editorial office for a while now: the Netherlands’ first rum distillery. Rum, made on Dutch soil. And that’s not all: you’re very welcome to make your own rum there.
When people think of rum, many picture pirates or liquor hidden in dusty old barrels. Ruben Maduro, the distillery’s initiator, wants to change that image by making distilling more accessible. With Spirited Union Distillery, he also wants to create a place to produce more rum and experiment with special botanicals. A good base is needed for that, and luckily, one is located right around the corner from our editorial office.
Workshops
At the distillery, you can take part in several workshops: from tastings to making cocktails. And perhaps the coolest one of all: you can create your own rum. During this 2.5-hour workshop, you’ll learn everything about rum and distilling this divine drink. How do you create a unique flavor that you like best? You’ll find out during this workshop, and afterwards you’ll stagger away with a large bottle of personalized rum.
