McDonald’s brings nostalgia to the Netherlands with the Friends Meal for adults
There’s a good chance that in the ’90s, you sat on the couch with a Happy Meal in your hand, watching Rachel and Ross take yet another break. And now? Twenty years later, you’re sitting at the office with your colleagues, having the same discussion. About Ross. And that break. McDonald’s Netherlands has found a way to turn our eternal Friends obsession into a fry-friendly moment: the Friends Meal for adults is here!
The Happy Meal has grown up (and it’s Ross’s fault)
Starting November 11, you can get a meal box full of nostalgia at all participating McDonald’s restaurants in the Netherlands, complete with a Big Mac or McChicken (of course, also available in Meatless and Spicy) and a limited-edition Friends figure. Think: Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Joey or Phoebe. Because who you are at the table is, naturally, just as important as what you eat.
The Friends Meal: what’s in it?
Okay, so this is not child’s play. The Friends Meal is an adult version of the Happy Meal, but with a wink, vintage vibes and fast food. In the box:
- A Big Mac or McChicken (choice of classic, meatless or spicy)
- Medium fries
- Soft drink of your choice
- One of six collectible Friends figures
- A specially designed box filled with subtle references to Central Perk, the yellow couch and other iconic Friends details.
Whether you’re a Chandler who jokes everything away with sarcasm or a Joey who doesn’t share his fries; this box is for you and your friends.
“How you doin’?” – McDonald’s understands the hype
According to Karin van Prooijen, marketing manager at McDonald’s Netherlands, the Friends Meal taps perfectly into the way young adults (read: everyone with a TikTok account and a soft spot for sarcasm) identify with one another. “We see that many young people between the ages of 18 and 34 enjoy characterizing each other in a light-hearted way and recognizing themselves in those descriptions. The Friends Meal taps into that and invites groups of friends to eat, laugh and share typical McDonald’s happy moments together.”
In other words: your group of friends becomes an episode in its own right. Including sharing is caring, except when it comes to fries.
Why Friends? Why now?
Because Friends has never gone away. Whether you’ve binged it 15 times already or have only just discovered that Ross was a paleontologist and not simply a boring guy with a leather couch: the series is alive and well. And with the eternal comeback of ’90s fashion, music and memes, it simply makes sense for McDonald’s to tap into that generation.
Nostalgia on your tray, but only while supplies last
Food is emotion. McDonald’s understands that. And for everyone who grew up with “We were on a break!” and a Cheese Quarter Pounder: this promotion feels like coming home. The Friends Meal will be available temporarily from November 11, 2025, at all participating McDonald’s locations in the Netherlands, while supplies last. So if you want to get your hands on a rare Joey, you’d better be quick.
