McDonald’s gets a makeover

At the new luxury McDonald’s, there are no more queues, a hostess walks around and the meal is brought to the table.

Fine dining at McDonald’s? In France, it’s perfectly possible, because all the fast-food chain’s locations are getting a makeover. A ‘luxury’ interior should reduce waiting times and further increase profitability. The restaurant on the Champs-Élysées in Paris was the first to be renovated. What’s the difference between the old and new McDonald’s? The large menu boards have been removed, there is an open kitchen, there are no queues, a hostess walks around and the meal is brought to the table.

Marley Spoon raises 17 million
Marley Spoon, the service that delivers food boxes for cooking at home, has secured an investment of 17 million dollars. Last week, it was already announced that the turnover of the online food business in the Netherlands was more than 700 million last year, almost one and a half times higher than the year before. Thanks to these kinds of major investments, that growth looks set to continue this year. Not many people yet know that companies like Marley Spoon and HelloFresh exist; according to Fabian Siegel, CEO of Marley Spoon, that is the biggest challenge.
Tempura pizza—would you eat it?
At Sake Bar Hagi, a Japanese restaurant in New York, you can eat deep-fried tempura pizza. The dish has been on the menu for thirteen years, but right now there seems to be an overload of attention for unusual food creations, such as rainbow bagels, decadent milkshakes and enormous burgers. Want to deep-fry pizza yourself? You can do so by deep-frying a frozen pizza in, for example, this batter.
