McDonald’s introduces a rice ‘bun’ burger

Anyone who prefers rice to bread should head to Japan as fast as possible. McDonald’s recently introduced the rice burger there.

With the slogan ‘Gohan dekita yo’ (the rice is ready!), the three most popular burgers have been stripped of their buns and fitted with a kind of crispy rice patty. Made with Japanese rice and seasoned with soy sauce.
Late-night menu
The rice burgers are available from February 5 until mid-May through the Yoru Mac menu. A special menu available from 5:00 p.m. until closing time. In the case of 24-hour McDonald’s restaurants, that means 5:00 a.m.
Three burgers
The burgers to choose from are the Gohan Bacon Lettuce Burger (a beef patty with bacon, lettuce and cheddar), the Gohan Teriyaki (a pork patty with ginger-flavored teriyaki sauce, crisp lettuce and sweet lemon sauce) and the Gohan Chicken Filet O’ (a chicken patty with lettuce and aurora sauce).
In Japan, it was an instant hit even before its launch. The tweet about it alone received 234,000 likes and 56,000 retweets, and the reviews on YouTube are positive. Although some people also criticize the ‘bun’ for falling apart and turning into quite a messy affair.
Also in the Netherlands?
It is not known whether the rice burgers will ever make the journey to the Netherlands. For now, Japan was chosen because people there generally eat more rice than bread. But don’t worry, with this recipe you can simply make your own rice burger.
