Abroad? This is what you order at McDonald’s

McDonald’s is your best friend for midnight snacks and hangover food everywhere in the world. And the fun thing is that every country has its own crazy items on the menu. From poutine in Canada to chocolate toast in Germany; a McDonald’s trip isn’t such a bad idea after all.

For tourists, the McKroket may be quite adventurous, but for us, it’s a piece of cake. Luckily, we can have our fun in other countries:

McVega menu in India

A special vegetarian menu was created for McDonald’s India. They have the Veg Pizza McPuff, a kind of pastry filled with tomato sauce, vegetables and mozzarella. There’s also the McPaneer, made with fried paneer (cheese from India), jalapenos and a cheese-and-onion sauce. And then there’s the McCurry Pan, a vegetarian savoury pie with creamy sauce, mushrooms and vegetables.

Bubur Ayam McD in Malaysia

Bubur ayam is a Chinese-Indonesian variation on congee, a rice porridge dish. McDonald’s has its own variation of this dish on the menu in Malaysia. It consists of chicken strips, ginger, onion and chili peppers.

Poutine in Canada

Next-level fries are great, and Canada wouldn’t be Canada if you couldn’t find poutine on the McDonald’s menu. Poutine consists of fries covered with a generous layer of cheese and gravy. One variation they had on the classic poutine was topped with maple syrup and bacon. Intense.

McRice Bowls in India, Indonesia and the Philippines

In these countries, rice is indispensable at McDonald’s. McDonald’s rice bowls are bowls of rice with various sauces and toppings. There’s a spicy bowl of rice with chicken nuggets on top, a vegetarian version with cheese, or one containing chicken strips.

McToast Chocolate in Germany

A little closer to home is the McToast Shoko from Germany. This is flatbread filled with a generous layer of liquid milk chocolate spread. It’s very simple, but sounds incredibly delicious. A good alternative to a McFlurry for dessert.
