A seventy-kilo wedding dress

It can’t be worn, and whether it tastes good is another question. Three hundred hours were spent creating a life-size wedding dress. Out of cake. The ‘Weddible Dress’ was designed by award-winning pastry sculptor Sylvia Elba. All the accessories are made from thirty-five kilos of fondant, half the total weight. The cake bodice weighs ‘only’ three kilos. And what about the other thirty-two kilos? They’re in the two thousand layers of wafer paper.

Elstar or Jonagold?

You can never be completely sure that what it says on the packaging is correct. Until we use a scanner that maps all the raw materials in a product. This technique is not entirely new; for some time now, it has been possible to scan a so-called ‘fingerprint’ of a product. The idea is that the difference between a Jonagold and an Elstar apple will soon be detectable as well. The Washington Post calls this scanner the ultimate lie detector.
