Never Put These in the Dishwasher

The dishwasher is our best friend, and it always will be. However, besides cleaning, this wonderful appliance can also seriously ruin all kinds of products. Make sure you never, ever treat the following items to a cycle in the dishwasher.

Wood
It’s best not to put anything made of wood in the dishwasher. The heat and moisture will cause your wooden spatulas, bowls and cutting boards to warp, crack and split. Splinters can also damage your other dishes. After washing wooden cutting boards and other kitchen utensils by hand, dry them as quickly as possible.
Antiques
Dishwasher detergent can be highly corrosive and aggressive, which means that the cute floral print on your grandma’s dinnerware probably won’t survive a cycle in the dishwasher.
Crystal glasses or wine glasses
These are fragile, and the chance of them breaking is very high.
Aluminium, copper or tin
Absolutely don’t do it! Stains will appear, and products made from these materials will discolour.
Plastic
Pay close attention to the temperature when it comes to plastic. 35 degrees is fine, but plastic can melt at higher temperatures. Plastic can warp, discolour or crack in the dishwasher.
Sharp chef’s knives
Food remnants left behind in your dishwasher can leave rust spots on the knife’s edge. The quality of the blade will also deteriorate, and the corrosive dishwasher detergent can even make your knife less sharp. So just don’t do it.
Cast-iron pans and ceramic non-stick pans
Your pans will last much longer if you wash them by hand. Dishwasher detergent will make your non-stick coating disappear in no time.
