A cheese board after dinner or a snack board with that rich, dripping cheese: LOVE IT! But what if you’re vegan? Sometimes you want a delicious ‘cheese’ board too, right? The solution is near, because Jumbo has a new line of plant-based snack cheeses from Max&Bien in the chilled section, right alongside the regular foreign cheeses.

‘We are true cheese lovers, but we too want to eat plant-based more and more often. So we simply had to look for delicious, flavorful alternatives for the cheese board,’ says Jobien Groen, one of the founders of Max&Bien. The plant-based cheesemaker from Amsterdam was also the first in the world to launch plant-based Gouda-style cheese wheels.

Since 2018, Max&Bien (Max stands for Maxine Agyeman, the other founder) have been making plant-based cheeses for snack boards. With their blue cheese, they once won the public award at the Vegan Cheese Awards in 2020, and Max&Bien’s plant-based butter was named ‘Tastiest product of the year’ during the Kweker Food pitch.

Various flavors

A year ago, Jumbo Foodmarkt Groningen was the first supermarket to stock Max&Bien’s new range (the vegan cheese wheels, salad cubes and vegan cheese fondue). Now, Max&Bien’s vegan snack-board cheese wedges (110 grams) are available at around 400 Jumbo stores. The vegan cheese wedges come in Cumin, Truffle and Herb & Garlic flavors and cost 3.99 euros each.
