New for King’s Day: HEMA is now selling a tompouce in a can (and yes, it contains alcohol)

You know the tompouce. That orange, glossy version at HEMA that you wolf down on King’s Day while sitting on a blanket at the flea market — perhaps with a can of tompouce beer on the side. But now HEMA has decided that the tompouce should also become liquid. Literally. Because together with hard iced tea brand STËLZ, HEMA is selling a tompouce in a can this year. And yes, it does contain alcohol.

It’s the STËLZ tompouce Hard Iced Tea: pink cans with a tompouce print, sold as a 4-pack of 250ml cans. One can contains 4.5% alcohol and just 69 kcal — so that’s less than a glass of wine. For €7.99 (previously €8.99), you can take the whole 4-pack home. One small catch: you can only buy them in HEMA stores; they can’t be ordered online. So you’ll have to stop by.

STËLZ is a Dutch brand that makes hard iced tea — alcoholic iced tea in a can, a category that has grown considerably in recent years. Light, refreshing and easy to take with you. And if you then give it the flavour of the most iconic Dutch pastry? Then you can understand the collaboration.

Because HEMA and the tompouce have long been more than just a piece of pastry. There was already the Eau de Tompouce, followed by tompouce nail polish and even a tompouce suitcase. There was also Tompouce Blonde beer, and new flavours kept appearing, from banana split to mango passion fruit. The orange tompouce on King’s Day has by now become a phenomenon and, according to research, is even the most-eaten product of the day. The pink version also remains consistently popular throughout the year. So HEMA translating that love for the tompouce into a drink feels like a logical next step. Although the question remains: does it really taste like tompouce, or simply like something sweet and refreshing?

Social media has been buzzing about it for a week now, and there are already plenty of taste tests to be found online, with opinions divided. But that’s exactly what you want on King’s Day: a new thing that you can let everyone try and then discuss together. The STËLZ tompouce Hard Iced Tea is ready.

The STËLZ tompouce 4-pack (250ml, 4.5% alc., 69 kcal) is available at all HEMA stores for €7.99. While stocks last.
