New hotspot 030: Hygge

A new hotspot has recently opened on Goeman Borgesiuslaan in Utrecht’s Staatsliedenbuurt: Hygge. Have breakfast there, enjoy a cup of coffee, lunch, drinks or an extensive dinner. In addition, a to go corner will be opening soon. Everything in one place, in other words.

Hygge
Hygge is Danish for what we know as ‘cosy’ and ‘intimate’, and that is exactly the atmosphere owner Ivar Boom wants to create in his restaurant. “My goal is for this to become the neighbourhood’s living room. We’re open to everyone at every moment of the day. What makes us unique is a large terrace with a big lawn next to it, while being only five minutes outside the city centre.”
The food
Quality is central at Hygge, which is also reflected in the various suppliers Ivar uses. “All our products come from somewhere else. For example, we serve coffee from Giraffe, tea from Tea in motion and we make the iced tea entirely ourselves,” says Ivar. The hams all come directly from Spain, while the cakes are from rose&vanilla. You can view the full menu here.
All cutting techniques explained
What are the specialities at Hygge? Thai pumpkin soup, sea bass ceviche and picanha with chimichurri. Another nice bonus: it isn’t expensive. You can get a fresh sandwich from €6.50, and the most expensive dish on the menu is €16.50.
