New in Amsterdam: bubble cathedral Cavataria

cavataria amsterdam

Christ’s go-to drink may have been wine, but at the new Spanish restaurant Cavataria in Amsterdam, cava is at least as sacred. From confessional to cava altar: everything is ‘in the name of cava, togetherness and the eternal celebration. Amen.’

For owner Daan Kroone, Cavataria is a dream come true. The Spanish restaurant opened this month on Cornelis Krusemanstraat in Amsterdam.

Holy Spanish food

At Cavataria, you can enjoy all kinds of tapas and raciones, small dishes to share. It’s a combination of classic Spanish dishes such as patatas bravas and tartar de berenjenas. But there are also dishes with a modern twist, such as croquettes with squid or chorizo.

Cavataria’s motto is ‘In the name of cava, togetherness and the eternal celebration. Amen.’ And that ‘sacred’ theme can be seen everywhere. Some of the windows are stained glass, and the passageway to the toilets has been painted like a real ‘stairway to hell’. There’s even a genuine confessional for when you have ‘sinned’.

An ode to cava

And we’re happy to sin here, because with so much cava on the menu, you’re bound to leave the place tipsy. ‘I love good cava. Unfortunately, this delicious sparkling wine is still relatively unknown. It’s fun to work with it,’ says Daan. Do you share that cavalove? Then be sure to take a look at the—yes—cava altar. Amen.
