Legumes are incredibly healthy, versatile and, in my opinion, also absolutely delicious. And with HAK’s new packs and packages, they’re now incredibly easy to use for efficiently stocking your pantry. The cheerful colours greet you from the shelf.

Legumes such as lentils, chickpeas and kidney beans; I love them. Ideal in a salad, soup, stew or homemade, silky-smooth hummus. In some countries, lentils are more than just a delicious ingredient. Take this Italian New Year’s tradition: lentils resemble coins, so to ring in the new year on a prosperous note, you eat as many of them as possible. Each lentil represents one coin. Are you a big eater? Count your winnings!

HAK in a Colourful Pack

To be honest, I was surprised to hear that young people don’t often choose legumes. HAK has countless glass jars and bags of legumes on the shelves, but now a new type of packaging has been added. It turns out there’s a way to make legumes more appealing to sell: offering them in a colourful pack. In Scandinavia, this has been a hit for years.

Understandably so, because the colourful packs stand out, weigh much less than the glass jars and are incredibly convenient to store, as they can be stacked. So go ahead and fill your pantry with them, because the possibilities with legumes are endless.

Good for Your Budget

And now that grocery prices are skyrocketing, legumes are more appealing than ever, if you ask me. Apart from their taste, they allow you to make budget-friendly meals time and time again. Rice with beans, rice with chickpeas, rice with lentils: all nutritious and inexpensive meals that can be incredibly delicious.

Need quick inspiration? Fry chopped onion and garlic in oil in a heavy-based pan, add some ground cumin and/or curry powder, then a mug of rice and one and a half mugs of stock, and cook the rice over low heat until tender. Once the liquid has almost completely evaporated, add the contents of the pack(ette) of legumes and sprinkle with some fresh green herbs. Small budget, big pleasure!

HAK-in-PAK on the Shelf
