New: the baconnoot

Those who are good get treats, but a true BBQ enthusiast is only happy when Sinterklaas puts bacon in his shoe. Happy snacking!, reads the promotional appeal from BBQ guru Jord Althuizen about his latest invention: the baconnoot.

Why do pepernoten and kruidnoten always have to be sweet? BBQ fanatic Althuizen, self-proclaimed ‘pyro-culinary adventurer’ and owner of Smokey Goodness therefore came up with an entirely new variety. The baconnoot is a mix of kruidnoot and pepernoot. Made with a rub of BBQ spices and a surprising bacon crumble. The recipe was developed by the BBQ expert in-house.
What does it taste like?
It may take some getting used to: pepernoot and savory. But it works wonderfully. The baconnoot has a delicious, chewy bite while retaining the grainy texture you know from the kruidnoot. The BBQ herbs and spices come through nicely. This is a spicy pepernoot. We taste fiery peppers, but also warm winter spices such as cloves, ginger, nutmeg and cardamom, as well as the freshness of orange peel. The addition of bacon is a brilliant idea. It provides that wonderfully salty accent that also makes salted caramel so irresistible. Sweet and salty, an ideal marriage!

The baconnoten can be ordered exclusively through the webshop of Smokey Goodness (€5.95 per 250-gram bag). While supplies last. We’re going to put out our shoes!
