Nuns have a wine surplus of 64,000 bottles. Who can help drink it?
An extremely fruitful season has led to an abundance of 64,000 bottles of wine for the nuns at the Sint Catharinadal monastery in Oosterhout. Help the nuns and order their wine!
Hey, wait a minute—don’t we know these nuns from somewhere? Yes! In 2020, during the coronavirus pandemic, the sisters were also left with a wine surplus they couldn’t sell. There were 20,000 bottles back then, considerably fewer than the bottles now waiting for a new owner.
64,000 bottles of rosé and white wine
“The dry, warm and sunniest season ever produced beautiful, full bunches of grapes last year,” says prioress Maria Magdalena proudly. “We were able to make 64,000 bottles of rosé and white wine from them, almost twice as much as in a normal season.” You might think that’s good news, but with the new season just around the corner, it is quite a challenge for the nuns to get rid of this stock. Especially since this is so important: the proceeds from the wine are intended to maintain the monastery.
Help the nuns clear their wine stock
To sell the bottles of wine, the nuns have called on the help of an old acquaintance: Thibaud van der Steen of Breda-based No Waste Army. This is a collaboration between Breda Maakt Mij Blij and Boerschappen. Together, they help farmers and makers sell products for which there seems to be no market.
