Oh, come on: the chocolate Easter eggs are already back on the shelves

While I haven’t even recovered from my New Year’s Eve hangover, don’t even know exactly what my New Year’s resolutions will be—let alone have broken them yet—the retail industry isn’t wasting any time. The next holiday is already just around the corner. Well, on supermarket shelves, that is. Because guess what? The first chocolate Easter eggs have already been spotted… On January 2. The SECOND day of January.

Are we already in the mood to dye Easter eggs?
Action is certainly completely ready for it, because its shelves are already packed with chocolate Easter eggs and other Easter items. For example, a basket to collect your eggs in, or a craft kit for dyeing eggs. Lovely things, don’t get me wrong—but not necessarily what I feel like on January 2. The deep fryer at the oliebollen stand is still cooling down, and you’re already shoving chocolate Easter eggs down our throats?
To illustrate how far away Easter still feels—in my head and probably in yours too—I even had to Google when Easter falls this year (Easter Sunday: Sunday, March 31). So, almost three months away. By the time Easter arrives, we might already be sitting out on a terrace again. If only this miserable rain would fi-nal-ly be over. I can’t wait, so seeing them on the shelves already is more confrontational than something that makes me happy; it’s still so far away.
Chocolate Easter eggs permanently on the shelves
But I’m afraid this is a trend that will keep growing, and I predict that in a few years, chocolate Easter eggs, pepernoten and chocolate letter treats will simply be permanently available. It can’t be any other way. By the way, I unfortunately haven’t spotted these chocolate Easter eggs yet, because I could genuinely eat them all year round—they’re that delicious.
Now let’s just hope Mariah Carey’s Christmas classic isn’t already on the radio in September.
