Oh no: Antwerp introduces curfew, hospitality venues close earlier
We recently wrote about the very best places in Antwerp that are more than worth visiting, but this time we have less pleasant news from this vibrant city. The number of coronavirus infections is rising and a curfew has been introduced. In concrete terms, this means that everyone must be home between 11:30 p.m. and 06:00 a.m., and hospitality venues close at 11:00 p.m.
There is also a requirement to wear a face mask everywhere in public places where keeping a distance of 1.5 metres is impossible. Clearly, that does not make things any more enjoyable. It all looks far from relaxing to me, spending a day or weekend away surrounded by face masks.
No groups
For the time being, going out for dinner or to a café together in Antwerp is no longer an option either; in restaurants and cafés, only a limited number of people may sit at a table, unless they are from the same household. You can also forget about browsing market stalls or doing some shopping, at least if you want to do so as a couple or with several people. You may only go there alone or with minor children, and for no longer than 30 minutes.
Mandatory closure
Last weekend, Antwerp police closed 34 hospitality businesses because they were not complying with measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The rule that employees must wear face masks was violated particularly often. Police inspected more than 550 businesses, reports Misset Horeca.
