OH YES! Italy’s most delicious pistachio ice cream is now available in supermarkets here too

Gruvi Sammontana

For years, we at the editorial team have been addicted to the Italian Liuk ice cream. But there’s now another Italian ice cream on the shelves that deserves a reservation in your freezer. Gruvi Pistacchio Sincero is here, ready to win over your heart after winning ours.

Gruvi’s pistachio ice cream bar. You may have known it for ages, of course, because in Italy it’s available at practically every local supermarket and is made by Sammontana, with that smiling ice cream logo that has been brightening up every Italian beach bar forever. And now—celebrate!—it has crossed the border and made its way here.

Gruvi Pistacchio Sincero

Let me briefly describe my love for Gruvi Pistacchio Sincero. It’s a Magnum-style vanilla ice cream bar on a stick, with a green swirl of pistachio cream running through it. The ice cream is covered in a thin coating of the same pistachio cream, filled with pieces of pistachios and cookie crumbs. This gives it a crunch and a slight Oreo vibe, because cream and cookie. So there you have it.

Naturally, we subjected it to an extensive and independent test in our editorial garden. It went like this:

Run to Albert Heijn for the most delicious pistachio ice cream

The only downside: at many Albert Heijn locations, it’s consistently sold out. So you’ll have to make a bit of an effort (tip: you have the best chance at the XXL stores). A box of four costs exactly €4.49. That’s pricey, but in our opinion, it’s absolutely worth it. A fan of pistachio ice cream? Lidl has a cheaper version in its range, which is also well worth bringing home.

Making your own pistachio ice cream really isn’t difficult, by the way. And don’t worry: you don’t even need an ice cream maker. Give it a try!
