Tips so we can play bartender even better? Yes please. We’re well on our way by now (recently, for example, we learned how to get that perfectly foamy layer on your cocktail), but we can never get enough of truly good tips. Why do fresh figs work so well in so many cocktails? Because their sweet flavor is very approachable. It pairs easily with strong spirits in all kinds of flavor profiles. They soften bitter alcohol and make sweet drinks taste even sweeter and fresher. Cocktails based on bourbon in particular get an amazing kick from figs. So go for it!

Fig jam: an effective cocktail ingredient

Of course, à la the passion fruit in a Pornstar Martini, you can place half a fig on or in your cocktail. But we mentioned it before: a spoonful of jam in your cocktail is highly recommended. It gives your cocktail a sweet, fruity touch. Fig jam is ideal for this! Fig jam (or fig syrup) provides an extra intense flavor boost. Even more so than adding individual figs to your cocktail. You can make fig jam yourself by cutting 250 grams of figs into small pieces, cooking them with 150 grams of sugar and a tablespoon of lemon juice over medium heat, and then blending the mixture with an immersion blender (recipe by Eef Kookt Zo!). Then stir a spoonful into your cocktail and enjoy.

Sky-high on the list of favorites

Do you have a shitload of figs at home? Of course you can fill your entire pantry with jars of fig jam, but also try making this fig salad with Parmesan cheese. Or get baking with this delicious little fig tart with pistachio and halloumi. If the fig wasn’t already sky-high on your list of favorites, it will be after today.
