On a budget: Frits

Amsterdam West is the place to be, as you could already read here. There’s plenty to do on Jan Evertsenstraat, and Frits is where you need to go for beer and burgers. It’s never expensive here (unless you go on a drinking spree), and Monday is happy meal day, too. For ten euros, you get a burger of your choice(!) with a Brooklyn Lager on tap. For a few euros extra, you can add one of the side dishes.

Classic à la McDonald’s: wrapped and served on a tray

Frits doesn’t take reservations, so sometimes you’ll have to wait at the bar. Fortunately, you can eat there too, with a view of the beer selection. In addition to eleven beers on tap, there’s an extensive selection of domestic and international beers. After dinner, be sure to stick around for a Wild Jo from De Koninck or share the Slomo from Oedipus.

No frills

The generously topped burgers are served in classic McDonald’s style: wrapped and on a tray. The mayonnaise is good and the fries perfectly cooked. At Frits, there’s no Italian roll, but a fresh, soft, golden-brown brioche bun. Just as it should be. FavorFlav’s tip: the blue cheese cheeseburger.

Fries but no bun?
A burger without a bun is like pizza without cheese, but it’s possible at Frits. So if you’re with someone who doesn’t eat bread, there’s a skinny burger. For vegetarians, there’s a version with portobello, brie, artichoke and walnut.
