Pardon: these Jumbo supermarkets are now also selling sex toys

A dildo next to the cucumber, aubergine and courgette may not be the first thing that comes to mind… But it is now a reality in Groningen: two Jumbo stores there are now selling sex toys. And no, this is not an early (or belated) April Fool’s joke, but a collaboration with the company EasyToys.

‘For years, we have been working on our mission to remove sex toys from the taboo sphere. The fact that our products are now even on supermarket shelves is obviously a gigantic step in the right direction,’ says Eric Idema, CEO of EasyToys.

Jumbo sex toys, unfortunately only temporary

This collaboration concerns a three-month pilot — but it may well be extended if it is a success, or perhaps even expanded to more Jumbo stores? For now, it is only the stores at Grote Markt and de Beren. And no, don’t worry: they are not actually displayed among the fruit and vegetables, but are packaged very discreetly and stylishly.

I guess a great many people will have a lot to say about this, but honestly: I think it is a good initiative. I do wonder whether many people will actually dare to pay for one, because when I think of the Jumbo in the village where I come from… You are guaranteed to run into twelve acquaintances in the queue, and if you’re lucky, you also know the cashier. There you are with your butter, cheese, eggs and your butt plug.
