Perfect prosciutto pizza from—yes—the Airfryer

Nothing beats pizza from a real wood-fired oven. But, well, we simply don’t have one at home, and eating out every time isn’t an option either. Luckily, there’s a savior in times of need: the Airfryer. Because it can bake wonderfully crispy pizzas in less than 10 minutes.

Yes, you read that right: you can make not only brownies, Scotch deviled eggs and hangover breakfasts in the Airfryer, but your homemade pizza too. Whether you go for easy and super-fast with a ready-made pizza base topped with your favorite toppings or—as we do—make a pizza from scratch (spoiler alert: that does take a little longer than 10 minutes), the Airfryer does it all.
It’s useful to use the Philips Airfryer Pizza Baking Tray, so you can easily slide it in and out of the Airfryer and bake the pizza perfectly. This recipe applies to the Airfryer XXL.
How to make it
- Start with the yeast dough. Mix the yeast with the lukewarm water.
- Sift the flour, place it on your work surface and make a well in the center. Sprinkle the salt and sugar around the edge. Pour the oil and yeast mixture into the well and carefully work from the inside out.
- Knead until you have an elastic dough. If you have a food processor with a dough hook, let it do the hard work and set it to speed 3.
- Divide the dough into 2 pieces and leave it to rise for at least 1 hour under a damp cloth.
- Cut a piece of parchment paper to the size of the Philips Airfryer Pizza Baking Tray and place it on top.
- Has your dough risen nicely? Roll it out into a nice, thin pizza base the size of the pizza baking tray and place it on the parchment paper. It’s easiest to place the base with the parchment paper on the baking tray before adding the toppings, so you won’t have to transfer the pizza afterward.
- Is it sitting properly on the baking tray? Then spread the base with some tomato sauce.
- Cut the tomatoes into slices and remove the seeds. Tear the buffalo mozzarella into pieces and top the pizza with the tomatoes and mozzarella.
- Bake the pizza for 8 to 10 minutes at 180 degrees.
- Once baked, top the pizza with the prosciutto and arugula, and optionally some Parmesan cheese and extra buffalo mozzarella.
