Pickle fries are insanely delicious and here’s how to make them

augurkfrietjes

For a while now, I’ve been absolutely obsessed with pickles and I have no idea where it came from. I used to always remove the pickle slices from my burger, but now I’d much rather ask for extra. But I also love them on their own, or with a little sriracha on top. So yes, I’m in my pickle phase, and when I found the recipe for pickle fries, I jumped for joy. It may sound strange, but believe me: pickle fries are insanely delicious!

And typically American, because they’ve been very popular there for quite some time. It’s high time they became a trend in the Netherlands too. Because pickle fries are also incredibly quick and easy to make. To be precise, they’re ready in 15 minutes — which means you’ll have the most delicious snack to serve with drinks, or a fantastic side dish.

How to make pickle fries

1. Pour the liquid out of the jar of pickles, and dry the pickles as thoroughly as possible with paper towels.
2. Cut the pickle sticks into the shape of fries.
3. Mix the flour with the pepper (if you like, you can also add extra herbs of your choice here, such as garlic).
4. Put five tablespoons of the flour mixture in a separate bowl.
5. Add the egg and water, and mix until combined.
6. Dip your pickle sticks into the mixture.
7. Once they’re well coated in the mixture, put them in the remaining flour.
8. Heat the oil, and once it’s hot, fry each stick for 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
9. Remove them from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain.
10. Serve them with a dip of your choice — ranch is very popular in America, but it isn’t particularly easy to find in the Netherlands. A fresh mayonnaise is also delicious!

You can also use pickle slices and turn them into chips instead of fries — the recipe remains the same, you’ll just need to fry them for less time.
