Pizzeria gets New York Pizza as its neighbor and fears for its business
It could happen to you: you pour your heart and soul into your business, and a direct competitor moves in right next door. Pure misery, and that’s what happened to Sermir Duymaz. He has had his Pizzeria D’Angolo on Schoolstraat in Beuningen for more than 30 years… And now a New York Pizza is coming right next door.
And he is — logically — anything but happy about it and even fears for the future of his business: ‘we could go bankrupt.’
‘They can slash prices, I can’t’
‘I’m not happy about this, no. We fear a loss of revenue, perhaps even bankruptcy, and this pizzeria is our only source of income. We hope they close after all,’ Duymaz tells De Gelderlander. But there are more problems, his father also tells the same newspaper: ‘We leave with delivery cars and scooters from the back of the building. If they start doing that too, there will be accidents. The sidewalk will soon be packed at the front. The other neighbors aren’t happy either.’
Well, this is a tricky situation; New York Pizza can indeed offer bigger discounts and promotions because it is a large franchise, but when it comes to parking delivery scooters or cars, they of course do not have exclusive rights to do so, unlike Pizzeria D’Angolo. And perhaps even more importantly: Pizzeria D’Angolo currently has 3.1 stars on Google — so perhaps Duymaz should be putting a little more love into the pizzas anyway.
