Plant-based revolution

The Horecava Innovation Award is the annual prize for the best innovations in the Dutch foodservice industry. More than 170 entries competed in four different categories. Pulled Oats from Gold&Green is the winner in the Food & Beverage category. The jury was so enthusiastic about Pulled Oats that they also named it the overall winner. The most striking thing about the innovations submitted? They make it easier to eat plant-based. Plant-based cooking is clearly the future. The trend is even so prominent that the jury speaks of a ‘plant-based revolution’.

Just like pulled pork

Pulled Oats is made from just six ingredients: oats, fava beans, peas, water, oil and salt.. The texture is reminiscent of pulled pork. It has a neutral flavor, making it perfect to season for any dish you like. It is completely plant-based, so perfect for vegans, but actually for anyone who wants to eat plant-based more often. A nice change from that vegetable burger or vegetarian chicken pieces. In addition to the Horecava Innovation Award, consumers also named Pulled Oats Product of the Year this year in the meat substitutes category.

How do you eat it?

Stir it into your pasta sauce or wok dish, or use it – as we did in the test video below – as an add on with your nachos. All you need to do is fry it until crispy in the pan: easy as pie. Want to go truly all out? Then try these kimchi bao buns. So delicious.

Bonus: it is also incredibly nutritious. Thanks to the combination of oats, peas and fava beans, it contains no less than 30 grams of protein per 100 grams.

Where can you buy it?

Well, simply at Albert Heijn.

The test

Is it really that tasty? We put it to the test and made these loaded nachos: one tray with Pulled Oats and the other with pulled chicken. Which one did we like best? Watch it here:
