Queen Elizabeth launches her own Buckingham Palace Gin
That Queen Elizabeth enjoys a glass now and then is no state secret. Gin is her absolute favorite. Rumor has it that she even knocks back her first glass before lunch. So it’s not surprising that Buckingham Palace is now launching its own gin: Buckingham Palace Gin.
The gin is made with 12 botanicals, most of which come from her own garden. Now that’s what you call local production. What’s in it? Lemon verbena, hawthorn berries, bay leaves, mulberry leaves and eight other botanicals.
The Queen likes to drink her gin in a cocktail with Dubonnet (an aperitif based on wine), a slice of lemon and plenty of ice. But it is also said to be delicious in a traditional G&T with ice, tonic and lemon.
Where to buy the Queen’s gin
The gin is now also available to the masses: the bottle is for sale in the Royal Collection Trust webshop and costs 40 pounds (around 44 euros). Unfortunately, for now it is only available in the United Kingdom, where it will be served at royal events. But there is already talk of selling it in Edinburgh, Scotland as well.
Drink gin and save a job
The proceeds from the gin go to the Royal Collection Trust itself. It is responsible for managing the Queen’s art collection, as well as all the palaces and castles she owns. You may not think about it, but they too have taken a serious hit from coronavirus. Because of the crisis, the castles and palaces had to close for months. Normally, Buckingham Palace alone welcomes around fifteen million tourists every year. That’s a serious blow to revenue. The Queen can probably weather it, but it also put two hundred jobs at risk. In short: drink gin and save a job!
