Queues for this spot in Amsterdam thanks to Het Parool

I love reading them every week: the reviews in Het Parool, better known as Proefwerk. And I’m not the only one, because thanks to the 9 Mara Grimm gave it, it’s now absolute madness at Chinese restaurant Don Yung Kitchen. This restaurant had been on my to-go list for a while, but because of this score I want to change that as soon as possible. I have to go here.

Because apparently you eat incredibly good ramen here; Mara Grimm even calls the noodles ‘perfect’.

‘One of the best budget places in the city’

Well, if it’s also good for your wallet, then you’ve really got a hit on your hands. Don Yung Kitchen is taking it all in stride; ‘Sunday has always been one of our busier days, but today it’s extra, extra busy,’ says the waitress (the review came out on Saturday, December 10).

How bad was that extra rush? Well, it reached up to 40 minutes. And most of those people were Het Parool readers, some of whom had heard of this spot before (like yours truly), but hadn’t visited yet: this glowing review was just the trigger they needed to go.

So if you’re looking for incredibly delicious ramen in Amsterdam (like I am), you know where to go. But do expect a substantial queue, because this hidden gem isn’t so hidden anymore.
