Quick supermarket desserts

Craving a sweet ending, but don’t feel like making anything? Head to the supermarket, because with a few tweaks you can easily turn a standard supermarket product into a dessert that actually resembles one.

With a little combining, you can go a long way. Don’t expect any culinary masterpieces, but you’ll get just a little more than that standard pudding you usually buy.
Ice cream + toppings
Ice cream is actually a complete dessert in itself, but still want something extra? There are plenty of ways to perk it up.
The editorial team’s favorite is ice cream with nuts, caramel and/or chocolate mixed in, combined with cookies. Chocolate chip cookies, scholiertjes or kletskoppen, for example. Crumble the cookies over the ice cream and you’re done.
Another winner is frozen yogurt with frozen fruit that you warm briefly in the microwave. Maybe add some nuts or Bastogne cookies and you’ve got a winning ice cream sundae.
Salted caramel waffles
Buy flash waffles (the soft rectangular ones) and pile them high with salted peanuts and ready-made caramel sauce. A scoop of vanilla ice cream would certainly not be out of place here, but this dessert is already a treat without it.
Eton mess
Buy and crumble meringue, fold in freshly whipped cream and strawberries, and before you know it you’ll be enjoying this British classic.
Vlaflip
Relive your childhood and make a vlaflip. Pour vanilla custard into a glass, add strawberry lemonade syrup, then yogurt. If you still have them at home, chocolate sprinkles also make a delicious crunchy addition.
Chocolate mousse plus
At certain moments, we actually find ready-made chocolate mousse even tastier than the homemade version. It doesn’t need many additions, but some whipped cream and raspberries give it that little something extra.
