Recipe: super-easy apple pie rolls

appeltaart rolletjes

What a great idea: easy oven-baked rolls with warm apple pie filling… yum! And don’t worry if you don’t have hours to spare, because you can make these in just half an hour, without having to make the dough yourself first.

The recipe originally came from Spend with Pennies, but the ready-made apple pie filling they recommend was replaced by Kookfans with a quick fresh version. (Although we have to say, this would probably also be delicious with that ready-made cherry pie filling…)

How to make the easy apple pie rolls

  • Preheat the oven to 180° C.
  • Peel the apples and cut them into small cubes.
  • Mix the apple cubes with the flour, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 75 grams of the sugar and the nutmeg. Set aside.
  • Cut the crusts off the bread and flatten the slices with a rolling pin.
  • In a small bowl, mix the remaining grams of sugar with a teaspoon of cinnamon.
  • Set the melted butter aside in another small bowl.
  • Spoon two tablespoons of the apple mixture lengthwise onto a slice of bread. Then roll up the slice of bread, keeping the filling in the middle. Repeat with the remaining bread and filling.
  • First dip the rolls in the bowl of melted butter, then in the bowl of cinnamon sugar.
  • Place the rolls seam-side down in an oven dish lined with baking paper.
  • Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown in the preheated oven.
  • Serve warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of crème fraîche on the side, for example.
