Red sauce won’t make you fat

Good news: pasta with red sauce won’t make you fat. That’s what nutritional scientist Dr. Ludidi says. In fact, red sauce from a jar or bottle contains so many tomatoes that your doctor will let you count it toward the recommended two hundred grams of vegetables a day.

Grand’Italia conducted research that showed many Dutch people are afraid that a pasta meal isn’t healthy at all. Too sweet or too salty—that’s the nightmare scenario. Not true: their bottles of Sugocasa, which is tomato sauce, contain only a pinch of salt and mostly tomatoes—lots of tomatoes. They are washed, peeled, cooked and chopped, then put into a bottle with a little lemon juice and some onion. It’s not all that different from the tomato sauce you would make at home, provided you picked incredibly ripe tomatoes and stuffed them into a bottle within no time.

Is it the cheese?

So we can’t blame red sauce for big bottoms, protruding bellies and double chins. Then it must be the mountain of Parmesan grated over the spaghetti, all those meatballs that taste so delicious with it, or the dish of tiramisu for dessert. But if you eat red sauce, scientifically speaking, you’re doing very well for your six-pack.
