Foreign guests at the restaurant chain Ichibazushi ordered a regular portion of sushi, but instead got extra wasabi in their food.
In a statement, the chefs said that many foreign customers want extra ginger and wasabi in their food. This amount of wasabi therefore became a kind of new standard. On the chain’s website, there is a letter stating that the chefs did indeed use more wasabi than usual, but that it was not a form of discrimination.
