REX Hilversum in a New Look

Restaurant REX had been a favorite in Hilversum for ten years, but now they have decided to change everything: from dinner to design. The vitello tonnato is being replaced by fries with rendang, and the brown leather chairs by velvet and marble. 

With the new menu, owner Marco van Velthooven takes you on a culinary journey around the world: from crab cakes from America to dim sum from China and rendang from Indonesia. Thanks to the small plates – roughly the size of an intermediate course – there is no need to suffer from choice overload. From now on, REX’s doors are open again for you to enjoy your favorite street food combined with a colorful interior. Bet you won’t be able to keep your phone in your bag?

Street Food & Cocktails
REX’s new street food menu brings global flavors to Het Gooi. With dishes such as crab cakes, sashimi, dim sum, tacos and fries with rendang, the kitchen always knows how to surprise you. Thanks to the shared dining concept, everyone at the table can have a taste.

Fortunately, a few classics from the previous menu are still available at the request of regular guests. If you were addicted to the steak tartare, salad with chicken and truffle or Philly cheesesteak, you can still order them. As evening falls, the unchanged cocktail menu makes its appearance, featuring classics such as the Passionfruit Mojito, Vesper Martini and Solero. At the repeated request of REX’s friends, this beloved menu has also remained as it was.

From Cinema to Club
The iconic cinema building has brought a touch of glamour to Hilversum since 1935. In the past, people gathered here for festive film premieres at the weekend; nowadays, cocktail lovers queue up to dance inside to R&B and hip-hop.

Where guests let loose to urban music in the evening, the space is transformed back into a street food restaurant during the day. The barriers divide the space into separate sections: ideal for your intimate Tinder date.
