Roasted chestnuts

kastanje recept

You’d roast chestnuts for the smell alone. Whether you do it over the gas flame of your stove, in the fireplace or over an outdoor fire. And then the result is also addictively delicious. Plus, they’re not at all complicated to prepare.

Use a small sharp knife to cut a cross into the top of the chestnut. Place a generous handful of chestnuts in the perforated pan. Hold the pan over the gas flame of the stove. Shake regularly so that the chestnuts open but don’t burn. When they have all opened, remove the pan from the heat. Peel the chestnuts. Eat.

You can also place the chestnuts directly among the glowing coals of a fireplace or outdoor fire. Just be careful not to let them burn. And brush off the ash before peeling them.
