Rolling Kitchens: hidden gems

Yes, we can again. From Wednesday 24 to Sunday 28 May, Amsterdam’s Westerpark will once again be filled with mobile kitchens for the tenth time. Think you know all the trucks after all these years? Think again.

Every year, alongside the big boys, there are also plenty of smaller kitchens serving the tastiest discoveries. And that’s exactly what makes us happy. It sometimes takes a bit of searching, but if you spot one of these carts, don’t skip them.

Chef Nicolas
A long-time editorial favorite—we never go a day without visiting this cart. Or twice, or three times. This year, Chef Nicolas will be there with a seafood bar. Think: a platter filled with scallop ceviche, crab claws, shrimp skewers, bread with seaweed butter and red mullet bruschetta.
Pastéchi Caribé
We don’t actually know the Antillean cuisine very well at all, but we’re very enthusiastic about these pastries. You can choose from tuna, chicken or beef, and they also have delicious desserts.

Dos Chicas
Anyone who loves enchiladas, burritos or a good serving of nachos can head to Dos Chicas. They serve Tex-Mex with a twist. Can’t choose? No problem—get the sharing platter.

Vuurbrood
A kind of toasted sandwich that is sealed so tightly on the outside that the filling doesn’t spill out. With lamb mince, for example, pulled pork with grilled bell pepper, or goat’s cheese and fig compote.

Brownie
Be sure to save room for dessert at Waldo. His brownies are exactly as you want them: crispy on the outside and fudgy on the inside, with crunchy pieces of chocolate and walnuts.
