Science says it: people who drink Red Bull are difficult people

A long time ago, when colleague Livia from Amayzine was still a student, she drank cans of Red Bull. Especially during an exam, the energy drink was indispensable. Whether it was responsible? Not really. Red Bull contains quite a few substances that you can’t exactly call healthy. And on top of that, new research also shows that drinking Red Bull makes you a more difficult person. Say what?!

Getting into fights
Research at the University of Victoria found that mixing alcohol with highly caffeinated drinks such as Red Bull creates a greater risk of injury than drinking beer alone. Injury? Yes. As in: people are more likely to get into fights or become involved in an accident when they’ve been drinking Red Bull. They’re more likely to argue and become irritable and annoyed. Of course, this doesn’t mean you should read it as: if I drink Red Bull, I’ll have an accident. Of course not. And the occasional can really won’t do any harm. But if you drink that supermix of alcohol and this caffeine boost all evening, it could perhaps have consequences in the long term.
Mild drugs
It all has to do with the taurine in Red Bull. That substance is addictive. According to experts, it works like this: ‘It feels as though you’re more alert. It really has an invigorating, stimulating effect. If you compare it with stimulant drugs such as speed or cocaine, an energy drink like this is a very mild version.’ The more you drink, the more reckless your behaviour will be and the more severely addicted you’ll become.
