Seriously: Japanese Mayonnaise Restaurant

Our love for mayonnaise runs very deep. There are always at least four different kinds in the fridge, including a bottle of Japanese Kewpie mayonnaise. Kewpie restaurants will soon open in Tokyo and Nagoya.

Kewpie mayonnaise is much more acidic than the average mayo, making it perfect on fatty things like okonomiyaki and takoyaki. The reason we like it so much may also be a secret ingredient: it contains MSG. This makes the mayo extra addictive and full of umami.
What we perhaps like best is the thin nozzle on the bottle, which means you always get a perfect pattern on your plate. And don’t forget the distinctive drawing of a doll that serves as the logo on the bottle—slightly creepy, but it certainly doesn’t make it any less delicious.

Pop-up
At the café, you eat all the dishes with a delicious dollop of mayo. From the original to flavors like wasabi, basil and tomato. Anyone who wants to admire the mayonnaise cafés will have to be quick. The one in Tokyo is open from 1 to 31 March, and the one in Nagoya from 3 to 30 April.
