Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has already devoured at least 1,000 burgers in his life, suspects that there is more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his snack reviews on FavorFlav every other week. Like the veggie McKroket from McDonald’s!
The vegetarian McKroket
It had been coming for a while: a vegetarian McKroket. In my opinion, the croquette is the easiest thing to recreate, so there are already many different good vegetarian croquettes available in supermarkets. But with a fast-food chain, you never know, right? But I can reassure you vegetarians, because this one is very good. Better than the meat McKroket? That is up for debate, but in any case it is a very successful vegetarian version of the Netherlands’ own McDonald’s snack. The ragout is very well seasoned, with good ‘shredded meat’ texture too, and the iconic mustard sauce naturally finishes it off. Although there could be a little more of it. This burger is apparently only available temporarily, which I find very strange, so let’s all make it clear that this is simply food (haha, get it!!!!!!) for the permanent menu. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lidl’s new hot dog bun
No boys and girls, no, I really didn’t drink too much yesterday and no, I didn’t vomit over a baguette, because this is ‘just’ Lidl’s new hot dog bun! And now I want to thank this supermarket for continuously adding new snacks to its range, while mainly emphasizing that not everything can be a success, because this one, for example, has no potential. Sorry, it’s a cold hot dog with sauce that is far too sour, you absolutely couldn’t taste the cheese, the sausage itself was rather bland and the fried onions weren’t crispy enough. The bun was okay, sure, but that’s the only positive. There are weekends when you can put better sausages in your mouth, so sorry guys, this just isn’t it. On to the next one! ⭐️⭐️

Oh Cheesus burger and the fish & chips from Ter Marsch
Despite yet another (partial/intelligent/whatever) lockdown, hospitality entrepreneurs are simply powering on, which I deeply admire. Many great places in the Netherlands are now offering takeaway and delivery, so we can continue to support them in these difficult times. And they deserve it, because the hospitality industry in the Netherlands is fantastic. What champions. So here is a deep bow to the people at Ter Marsch, whom I previously praised to the heavens for their fantastic burgers. And again now. At the location on Kalverstraat, for example, you can order this Oh Cheesus burger, a somewhat Shake Shack-like hamburger that is deeeelicious thanks to its spicy ketchup, excellently melted cheddar and fantastic quality meat. There was one drawback: I think the lettuce at the bottom came straight from the fridge, because it was very cold. But honestly, that’s the only thing, because this cheeseburger was otherwise a real delight. What a bun, too. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
But what you really have to order there is the fish & chips you see in the second photo. Am I going to say it? Yes, I’m going to say it: some of the best fries in Amsterdam. My goodness, how wonderfully crispy, and what an admirable potato flavour. That combined with the exceptionally crispy cod, mmm. Everything is right about this. It sucks that the hospitality industry is closed, but thank God we can still pick this up. We’ll be back soon, guys. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
