Spicy and vegetarian nuggets from McDonald’s
It took a while, but I’ve tested them: McDonald’s new (temporary?) nuggets. The spicy and the vegetarian varieties. And yes, good grief, that spicy variety really is the Aunt Ria or Uncle Henny ‘I’ve got a funny joke’ version of spicy nuggets, you know? I mean, if this is spicy, then an average season of Temptation Island is deadly hot and downright devilish. They taste good, sure, but they really weren’t even a little bit spicy. But! The chili mayo, on the other hand, was genuinely hot, and that’s impressive, because normally I only encounter this level of spiciness at authentic restaurants. A little plus point, then, but those spicy nuggets themselves? Meh, but still perfectly fine. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

But those veggie nuggets—with the emphasis on veggie, because milk has been used here—are genuinely delicious. In fact: better than the regular nuggets. I kid you not. And for anyone who’s been a loyal follower of this page: yes, I also had them almost exactly a year ago. But back then they were softer, spongier, and had much less flavor. Now they seem to be seasoned a little more (I read on the website that turmeric and paprika are included in the breadcrumbs, which explains a lot), and that was an excellent move. Yes, once again: tastier than the regular nuggets. As if those had a whole lot of flavor, guys. Yes, you also thought you had taste when you were 14 and carried a Kipling bag. Times change. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Chicken Tex-Mex grilled sandwich from Happy Tosti, Deventer
May I have a round of applause for Happy Tosti? A genuinely lovely place with locations in various cities across the country, where grilled sandwiches are made and served by people with disabilities. And honestly? I haven’t been helped this pleasantly in ages. What lovely, friendly people they are there. That said: the grilled sandwiches are also absolutely delicious. In Deventer, I went for the Chicken Tex-Mex grilled sandwich. Delicious. Tender chicken that, in my opinion, could have been a little spicier, with bell pepper and onion that aren’t too overpowering, allowing the excellent cheese to be fully absorbed by your taste buds. The bread is good too; in my opinion it could have been a little crispier, but thankfully it wasn’t some bland, thin slice. Nice and thick, love it. Check whether there’s a Happy Tosti near you, because either way, it’ll make you happy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The invention of the internet is an impressive achievement, but let me introduce something even better: these mini baguettes with herb butter from Albert Heijn. And no, not because they’re so delicious, but because Appie has somehow managed to ruin a baguette with herb butter. How?! It’s literally the easiest bread roll ever. Baguette, herb butter, done. But no, this is a genuine disappointment. First of all: why isn’t this a normal white baguette? As if we want to eat a baguette with herb butter for the fiber and the health benefits, yeah right. I’m also not going to drink 112 beers with 0.5% alcohol just to get drunk. And besides: why are they topped so poorly? It’s just that there are more important things in the world, otherwise this would genuinely have been punishable by law. It’s an insanely great idea, mini baguettes with herb butter that you can put in the oven, but then make sure the execution is good. And make them deliciously filthy. What a shame. ⭐️
