Snackspert: “What Rein does with pizzas is simply sex”

Mediamatic Amsterdam

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 1,000 burgers in his lifetime, suspects there is more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and normally shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav every other week.

‘Nduja Red Pie, Szechuan White Slice, Margherito Extra from Euro Pizza

Even in challenging times, beautiful things emerge. Previously, you would order a pizza from Deliveroo, Uber Eats or Thuisbezorgd and spend the meantime running to church to pray that your pizza would be delivered in one piece and that not all the toppings would be lying against the side of the box. Now you can order pizzas without a care by picking them up frozen and baking them at home yourself. Not 100% ideal, but much better than having a fresh pizza delivered, honestly. One of the places selling frozen pizzas is Euro Pizza, an initiative by restaurant Europa (which once received an 8 from the well-known reviewer @hiskeversprille) run by chef Rein op ‘t Root, also known in the past for The Fat Pie (RIP) and the Rotisserie. And what he does with pizzas is simply sex. I’m just going to say it like that. Since you probably have the concentration span of a drunk shrew, I’ll briefly review the pizzas. But you already know: I have to have it.
The first: ‘Nduja Red Pie.
‘Nduja is spicy, spreadable pork sausage. Absolutely delicious. Topped with mozzarella, ricotta, Korean soybean paste and tarragon honey. It is truly sublime. Every bite recalls your favorite tropical destination; every bite feels like a loving conquest of your palate. Heavenly.
The second: Szechuan White Slice:
A very special one. With spring onion, arugula, Szechuan toasted breadcrumbs (so nice and spicy), as well as feta and goat cheese. I’m not a fan of goat cheese, but the flavor here is so subtle that it isn’t overpowering. It is genuinely a party in your mouth.
Then the Margherito Extra:
with distinctive Comté cheese, smoked tomato, mozzarella, ricotta, miso and basil. This margherita is genuinely special too; the French cheese appears like a friendly cat that stops by for a visit and then leaves again. Very pleasant. I miss the miso flavor a little, but that doesn’t matter. And as for the crust: it is really sturdy but not too thick. Excellent.
In conclusion, I want to say that Euro Pizza is a place you can—and should—try in a coronavirus-proof way. These guys deserve it. It is an experience. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mini cheeseburgers from Picard Surgelés

You can simply buy these little burgers at Albert Heijn, believe it or not. Picard is a well-known frozen-food brand in France and has brought this product over to Dutch supermarkets, and I can only applaud that. Ten mini cheeseburgers; finally, no more birthdays with slices of sausage and cubes of cheese, but simply little burgers. Isn’t that so much more relaxing than one of those Sunday circular birthdays where 50% of the guests don’t drink because they have to work again tomorrow?! Exactly. And the burgers are genuinely great. Good bun, tasty meat, excellent ketchup and decent cheddar. Not the best ever, but what a lovely snack with drinks. Finally, something different. Off to Albert Heijn, then! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Food for the trash can

Chili chicken, McDonald’s

What do you do when it’s your mother’s birthday but you can’t visit because of the coronavirus measures? You go to the McDrive, pick up her favorite Filet-O-Fish burger, leave it at her door, ring the bell and run away with your own Chili Chicken from McDonald’s. Now that’s enjoying yourself from at least 2 meters away. Although Mom liked the Filet-O-Fish, the Chili Chicken was a minor disappointment. Because this burger is definitely tasty, but as you can see in the photo, this is a case of poor aim with the sauce. Although the bag containing the order stood upright the entire time, everything fell out. It looked as though they had set up a game of Blindfolded Throwing inside McDonald’s, because I can’t think of any other explanation. Such a shame! The chicken is genuinely crispy—for McDonald’s standards—the bun tastes as it should, and the chili sauce that was in the packaging is simply addictively delicious. Aim better next time; you don’t go to the bathroom every day to practice your aim for nothing—okay, at least if you’re a man. ⭐️⭐️
