Southeast Asia’s largest Starbucks is now open

Coffee lovers, take note: the ultimate Starbucks location is now open. And not just anywhere, but on tropical Bali! You’ll have to spend a fair bit before you get there, but in return you’ll find yourself in a true coffee paradise. You can taste the fresh coffee beans from the ‘Coffee Sanctuary’s’ own plantation.

This isn’t just any Starbucks café. The new location is called the ‘Dewata Coffee Sanctuary’, a.k.a. the sanctuary of Starbucks coffee. Starbucks is building mega coffee destinations around the world in cities such as New York, Shanghai, Milan and Seattle. Bali was next in line, and it is the largest Starbucks in Southeast Asia.
From plant to cup of coffee
The new concept in Bali revolves around preserving Indonesia’s coffee heritage. Starbucks coffee beans have been imported from Sumatra since the company’s founding. The idea is to take visitors on the journey of the coffee bean: from plant to cup of coffee. Where better to experience that than at the source?
Coffee sanctuary
On the first floor of the building, visitors can watch how coffee is made on a projected wall. This is also where you’ll find the seedling nursery: visitors can peel the coffee bean’s pulp themselves and then wash it. The coffee sanctuary also offers tastings, and you can explore both the inside of the coffeehouse and the coffee plantation.
One hundred
After following the entire process, you can try one of the hundred different drinks. Lavender latte, anyone? All of these drinks are made with beans from the sanctuary’s own garden.
