Thirsty tales

Sparkling Tea is what we’re calling the summer hit of 2020

Sparkling Tea Van Nahmen

Of course, it’s always a bit of a stab in the dark predicting which drinks will become trendy this summer. But if I may throw something out there, I foresee a dazzling role for Sparkling Tea. A delicious alcohol-free alternative that top sommeliers are going crazy for.

I recently wrote about Van Nahmen’s special drinks. The originally German company makes fantastic grape juices, such as Riesling (made from the ‘wine grape’ riesling), which are wonderful with food. They have therefore been on the menus of leading national and international restaurants for years, including our own three-Michelin-starred restaurant De Librije.

Tea sommeliers

Besides the truly delicious alcohol-free grape juices, Van Nahmen also makes other amazing fruit juices. Such as the Sparkling Juicy Tea Rose-Rhubarb-Darjeeling. Yes, that’s quite a mouthful, except in your mouth, where it is primarily a wonderfully pleasant, lightly sparkling, fruity juice. Alcohol-free too, aber naturlich. No fruit has been fermented here; it’s the cold brew Darjeeling tea, combined with rhubarb juice and the addition of a few drops of rose water that does the trick.

The Sparkling Tea was created in collaboration with tea sommeliers, who not only have a nose for good tea, but also for what goes best with it.

‘Pleasant bitterness on the finish’

Tea with food? Huh? Yes, it may take some getting used to, as it is rather unusual in the western part of the world. Chinese people, on the other hand, have been drinking tea with their meals for thousands of years. Sparkling Tea is also truly recommended at the table. Such as with a retro shrimp cocktail, octopus salad, Jamie Oliver’s quick Asian fish cakes or how about breakfast burritos, because this bubbly tea is alcohol-free, so what’s stopping you from pouring yourself a cold glass at the crack of dawn?

What I’m trying to say is this: if you don’t want to drink alcohol for a while, but do want a delicious grown-up alternative (it really does resemble rosé!), try a Sparkling Tea. ‘The delicate mousse and fruity style open up the palate. Pleasantly dry, fruity acidity and a pleasant bitterness on the finish ensure that the flavor of this Juicy Tea lingers for a long time,’ say the experts. I simply say: wonderfully fresh and invigorating!

Also delicious with blue tortilla chips!

For Mother’s Day

Van Nahmen Sparkling Juicy Tea Rose-Rhubarb-Darjeeling costs just under ten euros. A nice idea for your mother (Mother’s Day is tomorrow!) who already has everything?
