I’m often asked: “What are truly cool hospitality concepts?” Here’s my answer! Every week, I take you to the most special restaurants, bars and hotels at home and abroad. Today: a dessert restaurant that no sweet tooth should miss: Cakes & Bubbles in London.

Good news for everyone who loves desserts: more and more excellent ‘dessert restaurants’ are opening their doors, especially abroad. One of the best examples is Cakes & Bubbles in London, located in the luxurious Café Royal hotel on lively Regent Street.

Iconic chef

With all its golden elements and floor-to-ceiling windows, the restaurant is not only dazzling; it also has an iconic chef at the helm. That chef is Spain’s Albert Adrià, known for the legendary restaurants ElBulli*** (which closed in 2011) and Tickets* in Barcelona, and named The World Best Pastry Chef in 2015.

Signature dishes

At Cakes & Bubbles, you can order Adrià’s famous signature dishes, such as the iconic Tickets cheesecake. It is packaged as a cheese (very Instagrammable!) and contains Baron Bigod Brie, hazelnut and a white chocolate rind. (Tip: enjoy it with a Gonzalez Byass sherry). Or choose the very light air pancake: no, not an ordinary pancake, but one filled with yoghurt foam and maple syrup.

Golden egg flan

Feeling peckish? Go for one of the bites, such as the golden egg flan with dark caramel or the stroopwaffle sandwich ice cream. And would you like to taste the very best of everything? You can! Adrià has put together a special four-course tasting lunch menu. Prefer something savoury? That’s possible too: the menu features excellent pizzas and salads.

Champagne

Another nice touch: with six champagnes available by the glass, Adrià wants to encourage guests to discover the combination of sweet flavours and champagne.

Café Royal

If you visit Cakes & Bubbles, be sure to step inside the beautiful Café Royal as well. This hotel is the ‘little brother’ of Amsterdam’s Conservatorium Hotel.
