Supermarket Delights

Some supermarket products are so convenient that we don’t often bother making them ourselves. No shame, these are our favorite ready-made products from the local supermarket.

Puff pastry and filo pastry
Making puff pastry or filo pastry is fun on a rainy Sunday. On all other days, we simply reach for the frozen version.
Chips
Homemade chips have been all the rage online for a long time, but as a quick snack, we’re just as happy with a bag of Kettle chips or ridged paprika chips.
Sauces
No, not béarnaise, béchamel or carbonara. We mean mayonnaise, ketchup and mustard. They’re also great to make yourself, but we always make sure to have jars, tubes or bottles of these at home. Naturally, Amora, DL or Zaanse mayo and Heinz Ketchup. As for mustard, we always have Dijon and Zaanse wholegrain mustard in the fridge.
Canned tomatoes
These are also a standard fixture in our pantry. Ideal as a base for pasta sauces or for braising meat for hours.
Dried pasta
Fresh pasta remains a favorite, but only when it’s homemade. Fresh supermarket pasta is ridiculously expensive, and we don’t actually like it at all. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with dried spaghetti or penne.
Roasted peppers
Delicious in salads or for adding flavor to your (supermarket) mayonnaise. Almost as tasty as roasting them yourself.
