Supermarkets support the hospitality industry in Amsterdam

For a brief moment, there was hope that the terraces could open on 31 March. But it really was only for a moment, because it soon became clear that it absolutely wasn’t going to happen. And that was confirmed once again during yesterday’s press conference. No terraces, no hospitality industry over Easter—it all just remains really damn bleak.

Meanwhile, contact-based professions are—fortunately—allowed to get back to work, but the hospitality industry has now been closed for months. Without any prospect whatsoever. I’m genuinely intensely saddened by it myself, let alone how all the hospitality entrepreneurs must be feeling by now.

Great initiative by the supermarkets in Amsterdam

And in these gloomy times, initiatives like this are at least a small ray of light. Reclame voor de Horeca, an initiative by Tosti Creative, gives supermarkets the opportunity to advertise on the windows of hospitality venues. Dirk can now be seen prominently at Bar Spek in Amsterdam-West, and their advertisement is also proudly displayed at Het Huis van Iemand Anders in Amsterdam-Zuid.

A total of nine Amsterdam businesses are taking part, but Tosti Creative emphasizes that it’s a nationwide campaign: supermarkets all across the Netherlands can participate. So, supermarkets, could you also help out my favorite spot, Venster 33 in De Pijp? I’d really, really love to be able to drink Moscow Mules there again when all this is over. For now, I’m putting on Davina Michelle’s Het Duurt Te Lang, because that’s more or less the thought running through my head 24/7. Far Too Long.
