Tested: pulled oats, your new favorite meat substitute?

Header FF artikel Pulled oats

We were already loving pulled jackfruit, but there’s a new meat alternative in town. Have you ever heard of Pulled Oats®? In Finnish supermarkets, they’re always sold out—will that soon be the case here too? We’re putting it to the test!

Pulled Oats® is made from oats, fava beans and peas. Its texture is reminiscent of pulled pork. It has a neutral flavor, making it perfect for seasoning for whatever dish you like. It’s entirely plant-based, so perfect for vegans—but really for anyone who wants to eat more plant-based foods. A nice change from yet another veggie burger or vegetarian chicken pieces.

How do you eat it?

Stir it into your pasta sauce or stir-fry, or use it—as we did in the test video below—as an add-on for your nachos. All you have to do is fry it until crispy in a pan: easy as pie. Want to go truly all out? Then try these kimchi baos. So delicious.

Bonus: it’s also incredibly nutritious. Thanks to the combination of oats, peas and fava beans, it contains no less than 30 grams of protein per 100 grams. That’s more than chicken! Sporty spice, are you paying attention?

A few years ago, the product was introduced in Finnish supermarkets, where it sold out completely in no time. Perhaps that’s not so surprising when you consider that it arrived right at the beginning of the vegan trend.

Where can you buy it?

That trend is continuing happily, so when will the rest of the world get to try this Pulled Oats®? Now! Because it’s simply available at Albert Heijn.

The test

Is it really that tasty? We put it to the test and made these loaded nachos: one tray with Pulled Oats® and the other with pulled chicken. Which one did we like best? Find out here:
