The best place for Italian groceries

Matteo Cellotto spaghetteria

By now, we all know that you can eat excellent pasta at Spaghetteria. But where do they do their shopping? Chef Matteo Cellotto (could it get any more Italian?!) shares his ultimate address and gives shopping tips.

“For both Spaghetteria and myself, I do all my shopping in one place: Casa del Gusto on Kerkstraat in Amsterdam. They have everything: cheese, sausage, vegetables, everything. Each and every product is of good quality and comes from small Italian producers. Have a question? The staff take all the time you need to answer your questions, tell you exactly where something comes from, how it is made and how you can use it. They really are experts.”

What should we absolutely try there at least once?

“The truffle oil is a must-have: top quality, no matter when you come. The quality is very consistent. The ricotta is also delicious, not industrial, and you can taste the difference. All the cheeses are delicious there, by the way. And yes, it is a little more expensive. But I would rather buy a genuinely delicious, slightly more expensive mozzarella than one that costs thirty cents and tastes like nothing.”
