2. Marksman

“Fantastic British pub food with two chefs who previously worked at St John. I’m a huge fan of their chicken pie with buttery, homemade pastry and a tarragon broth sauce.” – Rosie Birkett

“A quintessential London pub that was once voted Michelin Pub of the Year. And no wonder, with dishes such as snails with salted bacon, peas and lovage, spicy squid and addictive beef barley buns.” – Chloe Sachdev

3. The Eagle

“This was the first gastropub and the food is still fantastic!” – Liz & Max Haarala Hamilton

Although this pub in Clerkenwell doesn’t look particularly special from the outside, it is said to be the birthplace of the British gastropub movement – the first place where excellent, modern food and pints were served in a casual atmosphere. Many of the best pubs build on this cuisine, and hundreds of others have copied the concept.
