The Festicoolr is cooler than cool: 3D-printed and made from used festival tokens

Festival tokens—who doesn’t know them? Pretty expensive pieces of plastic that make you forget that a festival beer doesn’t cost 1 euro, but 1 token—in other words: 2.75. Ka-ching for the bar, ouch for your wallet. And yet, how we’ll miss them this festival-free summer. But we don’t have to! Because Charlotte Landman and Lisanne Besselink have come up with something really cool: the Festicoolr.

The what? The Festicoolr: a 3D-printed wine cooler made from used festival tokens. How fun is that?! Lisanne and Charlotte had been thinking for some time about what they could do with all those used festival tokens. The coronavirus crisis gave them this idea.
“We wanted a product that consumers would actually use regularly. And it looks lovely, a wine cooler on the table,” Charlotte says in Het Parool. Not a wine drinker? No problem—you can of course put something else in it. There’s a choice of a single (34 euros), double (39 euros) and XXL wine cooler (room for 12! bottles, 385 euros) in black, beige, Burgundy or mint green.
Made from festival tokens
The festival tokens come from Dutchband, a major supplier of festival tokens that had apparently been waiting for a good idea and a way to recycle the tokens for some time. The ladies then took their bins of tokens to 3D-printing company Shapeservice, et voilà: their first Festicoolr was a fact.
Get your own
Want to get your hands on such a cool cooler? The Kickstarter launches today. “We want to sell at least 350 units,” says Charlotte. Do be quick, though, because for now the idea is only intended for this summer. “We’re producing a maximum of 500 units, because it takes around 500 hours to print everything, and we think it’s great if people can have the Festicoolr at home this summer.”
