The food viewing tips for June

We all binge-watch Netflix and watch TV. Because we have a hangover and are incapable of doing anything else, to learn new things, or simply for fun. Every month, FavorFlav gives you an overview of the best, newest, most informative television programs, films and documentaries about food and drink.

That Sugar Film
When: June 1 at 9:00 p.m. on NPO 3.
What:
This documentary follows Australian Damon Gameau, who, as a human guinea pig and under the supervision of doctors and scientists, shows the effect sugar has on your body.
Why watch: because you might start eating a little less sugar, which, unfortunately, is good for you.
Gort over de grens
When: the final episode of this series can be seen on NPO3 on Friday, June 2 at 8:30 p.m. Fortunately, you can still watch all the other episodes here.
What:
winemaker Ilja Gort travels through Italy, experiencing la dolce vita, the sweet life.
Why watch: because it’s a joy to watch a Dutch Francophile in Italy.
Zoete Spruiten
When: every Saturday at 6:00 p.m. on 24kitchen, starting Saturday, June 3.
What:
Roberta Pagnier presents this new children’s cooking show together with Jochem van Gelder. Roberta tries to prepare the least favorite foods of many children (think chicory and Brussels sprouts) in such a way that children will actually enjoy them.
Why watch: if you have children who refuse to eat anything, this program teaches you how to tempt them into eating vegetables. You happy, them happy.
3Doc: Hummus! The Movie
When: June 8 at 9:00 p.m. on NPO 3.
What:
filmmaker Oren Rosenfeld travels around Israel and Lebanon and speaks to various people who all have their own recipes for hummus.
Why watch: opinions are divided on how to make the best hummus and where it originally comes from. Hummus has many secret recipes. But the spread also brings people together: Jews, Muslims and Christians—everyone eats hummus. The love of hummus unites people. And we think that’s beautiful to see.
Chef vs. science
When: June 14 at 10:30 p.m. on NPO3.
What:
In this British documentary, chef Marcus Wareing and scientist Mark Miodownik both cook the same three-course menu.
Why watch: Because then you’ll know who puts the most beautiful, tastiest dishes on the table. Marcus with his classic cooking techniques, or Mark with tools from his laboratory.

3Doc: World’s Best Diet
When: June 15 at 9:00 p.m. on NPO 3.
What:
a documentary about diets. What works best worldwide, and what is the worst menu in existence?
Why watch: because then you’ll know where to emigrate if you want a long and happy life.

Mounir Toub – Ramadan
When: anytime online.
What:
Chef Mounir Toub tells you everything about Ramadan and shares his favorite dishes on 24Kitchen.nl.
Why watch: because Arab cuisine is one of our favorites.

Saturday kitchen
When: every Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. on BBC One.
What:
a British cooking show. Not new (the program has existed since 2002!), but still great fun.
Why watch: the ‘Omelette Challenge,’ in which chefs have to make an omelet as quickly as possible, is our favorite part of the weekly cooking show. Record holder and chef Theo Randall even appears in the Guinness Book of Records because he cooked an omelet in 14.76 seconds. Watch past episodes online here.
What the health
When: whenever you like; the documentary is available on Netflix.
What:
A food documentary by the makers of Cowspiracy. What the health is a shocking story about the meat industry.
Why watch: documentary makers Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn make the FavorFlav editorial team (a.k.a. the biggest côte de boeuf lovers ever) think twice before putting a piece of meat in their mouths.
