The hospitality industry feels screwed over: the focus is now too much on this sector
The hospitality industry in our country has been back up and running for a while now, and restaurants are slowly climbing out of the deep valley of recent times. Yet the current measures are being tightened again due to the new infections. A thorn in the side of many entrepreneurs who feel that the focus is now too much on the hospitality industry.
Corona hits hospitality
Just when we thought the coronavirus crisis was somewhat under control, it is slowly but surely starting to flare up again. Last week, the bar at unlucky restaurant No Rules closed due to infections. Café Zwart on Dam Square also decided to close after staff fell ill. Owner Won Yip tells Misset Horeca that he is doing everything he can to make his business safe again. For example, all staff are wearing face masks, and the business has been thoroughly cleaned from top to bottom by a professional company.
The new rule
Every hospitality establishment is working hard to prevent infections, and everyone is strictly following the RIVM rules. And yesterday, another rule was added: from now on, guests must leave their details with the relevant restaurant by filling out a form. Entrepreneur Won Yip considers this an additional setback for the hospitality industry. ‘Taking down names and numbers: if you want to strangle the hospitality industry, you have to do things like this,’ he said. And who says people won’t keep providing fake names and numbers?
Divided opinions
People are also reacting with surprise to the additional measures on social media. For example, people are wondering why the hospitality industry in particular has to deal with so many rules, while supermarkets and DIY stores do not. Koninklijk Horeca Nederland also believes that the focus is now far too much on the hospitality industry, even though the number of infections is not highest there. Nevertheless, there is also understanding, and some people feel that the rules simply need to be followed, since these (new) measures are not being introduced for no reason.
It remains to be seen how the new rule will affect the hospitality industry. Koninklijk Horeca Nederland reiterates that the hospitality industry will continue to follow the protocols and that people must continue to keep a sufficient distance from one another.
