The internet is going wild: is there actually a little knife in the Nutella lid or not?

Nutella (1)

If you love chocolate, in whatever kind or form, it’s almost impossible that the jars of Nutella don’t fly off the shelves at home too. Because you spread the chocolate spread on everything, bake French toast with it, or simply regularly eat the contents of the jar with a spoon on the sofa. It now turns out that we’ve been opening that jar of Nutella the wrong way our entire lives. Apparently, there’s something hidden in the lid that should make things easier, as this TikTok video reveals.

The ordeal

Nutella, the jar with the golden seal without a tab, is one of those foils whose presence we’ve never really understood. It’s practically impossible to pull the whole thing off in one go without creating a battlefield. But this very Nutella secret, which the entire internet is watching in amazement, hidden in the lid, is supposedly specially intended to ease the suffering caused by the golden seal.

A lid full of secrets

Here’s how it works. When you twist the Nutella lid off the jar and look inside the lid, you see a white interior. And that interior can be removed. You can pry it out with a knife, revealing a silver foil. Underneath this foil, you’ll supposedly find a small plastic tool that looks like a knife, which you can use to remove the foil neatly. True or false?

Mind-blowing, isn’t it? If, like us, you’re wondering why you never knew this before… After a little participatory research, we can report that the jars on the shelves of our supermarket don’t contain a double layer with a secret item at all. Yes, the disappointment is huge. Especially because we’ll apparently have to keep fiddling with the foil, removing it with a kitchen knife and ending up with prickly, ragged edges.
